I’m sure this will be a beautiful FO but I’m not enjoying the knitting - my fault, it is NOT the pattern.

I’m doing this as a KAL with a young friend who hadn’t cabled before and wanted to learn. She also hadn’t knit lace before so she was pretty intimidated to start off with but has learnt the secret of fancy knitting - it is actually quite easy if you keep it to one stitch at a time.

So, my friend took a liking to my precious, irreplaceable Sundara club yarn in the Andalusia colourway and thus chose a fingering weight pattern to match. It was my fault; I said she could use whatever yarn she wanted in my stash… To match, I have used the other colourway with the exact same yarn that came with the yarn club.

Basically, I didn’t want to use this yarn for a hat. I don’t love the hat - I like it well enough but it wouldn’t have been my 1st choice for a 4ply slouchie beanie knit with 3mm needles - hence my lack of enjoyment but it creates a sense of camaraderie with my young novice mate, and I know it’ll all be worth it in the end. It is a very pretty hat and will suit me and my wardrobe very nicely.

12.02.2014:

My KAL friend and I started making the medium in late January - we are both loose knitters but after rough gauge counts and using a lifeline in my KAL partner’s WIP, we quickly realised that the medium would be too large around the brim. I put mine in the naughty corner until the start of the Winter Olympics.
