Notes

“magic” circle 8 single crochet in white
Do it in rounds instead of spiral. One sc for one knit stitch. The problem is the colorwork. Still working on that. It’s easy enough to add the poles. It’s keeping the spans on the right side that is the issue.

10-11-10 HAH! While visiting Katy I suddenly remembered how to carry yarn in crochet. Here’s the note to remind myself when I finally get home.

11-9-10 I can be a right idiot. Why, yes, it is going to be round when finished but it’s made flat so you’ve got to remember to start at the opposite end of the row you just finished! (8-10-11 WRONG.)

4-13-11 Really. I’ve gotten much further but it isn’t working. I think I’m going to crochet a blue sphere and then crochet the green continents and white ice caps and sew them in place. Or maybe make the pieces like jigsaw pieces and sew together.

4-27-11 Needs stitch markers.

7-12-11 I think I’m going to try tapestry crochet. http://iweb.tntech.edu/cventura/rightstitches.html#tapest... (8-10-11 CORRECT.)

8-10-11 I’m DONE!!!! FINALLY! Turned the chart upside down so I was working from the Arctic southwards instead of the Antarctic northwards. The crochet requires a LOT more chart discipline than the knit version unless one can deal with the fiddliness of having stitchmarkers at every break instead of just at the beginning of round.
I don’t understand how everyone else gets a nice round globe while mine all turn out egg shaped but oh well. I’m DONE!!!! I restarted it in the car yesterday and worked on it for 4 hours then another 3 hours today. I put it down whenever I thought I had made a mistake. Came back to it later and found that I hadn’t but my eyes were crossing the chart lines.
