Notes

I chained 33 and have 7 shells. After first row of shells I switched to variegated (leaving wine attached)

5 rows of variegated shells.

Row 7. After 3 shells I switched to wine. Carry variegated while making 3 shells in wine then switch back to variegated. (I used the other end of yarn from the wine skein)

Row 8. After 3 shells in Variegated I pulled up wine from row below by sticking hook through a few loops of the stitch below and lifting up loop to hook, sl st, and then make 3 stitches in wine carrying wine and slipping back to variegated. note: in some cases where it doesn’t show through I carry by slip stitch the carried thread across the row to the next place it is needed and then go back and work the new color over top.

Row 9 & 10 I worked 3 stitches in Variegated, 1 wine shell, 1 vari shell, 1 wine shell, 3 vari.

Row 11 & 12, 3 vari shells, 3 wine shells, 3 vari shells.
(there was only one part - the last 3 wine shells - where I had to cut the variegated yarn and tie off because it showed to much when I tried to carry it)

Continue for 5 rows in variegated. Cut and weave in.

Going back to row 1 and picking up the wine color slip stitch along the remaining loops of chain row.

Single crochet down side working in stitches and not holes. At the end of that side chain 3 and add a row of wine shells at the end. Then sc up the other side.

Next time I think I’ll do a row up shells (which would be facing the opposite way) across the opposite side of the chain instead of slip stitching. I would start with variegated on Row 1. I think it would look better if both edges were scalloped instead of having one straight.
