I have made this blanket a couple times before and I just love it. There is a typo in the last round of the edging but otherwise this is a great pattern that works up quick.
“Afghan body” includes the boxes with roses with rows of open spaces surrounding each box. The gauge swatch is two pattern repeats of the boxes with the roses and surrounding spaces. I get 4” x 8” which is 3/4” longer but I don’t think that matters.
I like to break my stitch counts up by top/bottom and sides so I can check as I go and find mistakes before I get very far.
Edging round 1 - 87 stitches across top and bottom, 110 stitches on each side
Round 2 of edging - switching to baby pink
I’m adding a round of single crochet in gray here after round 2 and then continuing on to round 3 in gray. 48 spaces across top & bottom/60 each side = 216 spaces and dc
Round 4 - switching to pink
I just finished through round 5 of the edging and even though it isn’t finished yet I really like how it looks. It makes a pretty, large scalloped edge (see pictures). There are 12 scallops across the top and bottom and 15 on the sides.
Round 6 - This is one of those long strings of instructions with brackets, parenthesis, stars and the little t symbols that looks really confusing but if you take a sticky note and isolate just one section at a time it really is easy. Just work one line and then move to the next. 48 spaces top & bottom / 60 spaces on sides / 1 space each corner = 220 spaces
Row 7 - This row is where it gets confusing. I am sure there is a typo here. After the star and t or cross symbol there is a section in parenthesis to repeat “across to within 2 ch-3 sps of next corner ch-3 sp.” After you go through the instructions in the parenthesis the first time you need to then sc in next ch-3 space, work picot, sc in next ch-3 sp before starting over again.
(This row is about as fun as weaving in a bazillion ends in one sitting)
