Casting on with long tail cast on. Joined by wrapping the first stitch with both ends.
Knit first round with both ends to help keep it up.

Cuff is 3 inches. I only have one skein of this yarn.
I switched to a different yarn for the heel.
Knit the heel in eye of partridge stitch.
I knit the flap as long as it is wide before starting the gusset. Yes, that means more stitches to pick up, but the sock doesn’t squish down inside boots as easy as with a shorter heel.
I started the gusseting with 10 stitches on each end for a wider “pocket”.
