May 31, 2015:

A creative kit from the wonderful Mrs. Knitter Designs, who was the first knitter I met after moving to Maine! Donna has wonderful whimsical hat designs, go visit her webpage or Ravelry page. This is a peregrine falcon -- do you see the ribbing are his claws and the body his feathers?

The original kit has falcons with two eyes and a beak on the crown. But upon visiting a wall of her kits at Seven Sisters Arts in Blue Hill, Maine, I saw she had an alternate version with birds in their profile… one eye and an open beak. The open beaks strung together make a gorgeous bright yellow star along the top, so that even if you don’t know that you are looking at birds, the motif is lovely.

I also pestered her and traded the darker Marigold in the kit for the brighter Chrome, same as in her special version of the hat.

The yarn is lovely stuff, I will consider getting a cone for something. So natural and strong and acceptably soft. It blooms beautifully when washed -- or so they tell me. That’s next for blocking!

I forgot to weigh the skeins before, but I had this much left after the hat was made:
Snow: 14g, 67.2 yds
Chrome: 4g, 20.2 yds
Graphite: 8g, 40.3 yds
Shale: 10g, 51.5 yds
Black: 14g, 67.2 yds
