Dec 20: Finished! Yea! I’ll block it after I show it to my knitting group tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m counting it as an FO!

Someone else who knit this sweater called it a mullet sweater: All business in front and all party in the back! I hope my SIL likes it!

Dec 4: I split the work for the armholes. Since I’m now working flat (as opposed to working in the round), I’m knitting with my size 4, 3.5mm needles that I’ve used until now. However, I’m purling back with size 3, 3.0mm needles. My gauge for knitting flat is much looser than my gauge for knitting in the round, so to keep it all even, I’m using two sizes of needles.

The short row instructions aren’t helpful (to me, anyway - and while encouraging, neither were the existing forum discussions) so here’s what I did with 14 stitches on each side to shape the shoulders.

Row 1: K8, sl 1, wrap, sl st back onto left needle, turn
Row 2: P2, sl 1, wrap, sl st back onto left needle, turn
Row 3: K2, K wrapped stitch (both the stitch and the wrap part), K2, sl 1, wrap, sl st back onto left needle, turn Row 4: P5, P wrapped stitch (Both the stitch and the wrap part), P2, sl 1, wrap, sl st back onto left needle, turn Row 5: K8, K wrapped stitch (both the stitch and the wrap part), K2 (to end of row)
Row 6: P11, P wrapped stitch (both the stitch and the wrap part), P2 (to end of row)

It’s symmetrical, so I did the exact same thing on both shoulders. It’s not exactly right and though I still ended up with 14 stitches, it did tighten it up a little bit.

Hard to believe I added 3” to the length!

Oct 29: OK - now that I have a good edge - this is going along rather quickly. Keeping track of my lace rows using a counter is a good help as well. NOW, I’m finally excited about this sweater!

Oct 28: OK - I just frogged it - AGAIN! Well - last night I did. So I started over, but opted for a picot edge all the way around. It turned out well. I didn’t like the way it turned out doing it in the round with half folded and half edge in the back. Now with a full picot edge it looks a lot nicer - a lot cleaner. So - it’s coming along quite nicely and since I’m now on size 4 needles (with 180 stitches total).

FYI - differences in lighting, obviously, but this yarn - the natural / oatmeal color - is the same color/dye lot of yarn used in my Aranmore Shawl.
