After adding a full stripe to finish my purple yarn I still had a small ball of yarn. Too small for another stripe but too large to be a leftover,,,,

So, I decided to add some stripes to the contrast color edge. I knitted as many as the yarn allowed.

I really like my solution :)

Now my shawl is all done and all I have are two tiny balls of yarn.
