Despite what the dates suggest, it didn’t actually take me a month to knit this simple ribbing-and-seed-stitch cowl, even though it was reserved for those moments of mindless knitting while watching TV or listening to Justin read aloud. It just took me that long to block, weave in the ends, and photograph, and then only because I was distracted by other hobbies and desperately awaiting a day where I had halfway-decent light. (Hint: an east-facing apartment abutting a copse doesn’t get decent light.)
I performed a series of math problems to determine how to use up as close to all of the yarn as possible without running short, but in the end relied on a much simpler formula: cast on a sufficiently large number of stitches for a slouchy cowl that loops once, knit ribbing, weigh ribbing, knit in seed stitch until I had about that weight of yarn remaining, knit ribbing, bind off.
I took measurements of the finished cowl but forgot to record them, and now the finished knit has been sent to its intended recipient so the opportunity to re-measure has been lost. But, since I doubt I’ll be knitting another and it wouldn’t be hard to re-calculate anyway, I’m not losing any sleep over it.
