Yarn arrived today and I finished 1 out of the 11 skeins of bulky yarn already on the swatch and beginning the bottom skirt portion. Since my measurements are 35.5” - 25.5” - 37.5”, I want to knit the XS size with the waist of the XXS. My swatch measured 19 stitches x 25 rows for 4”. I’m also knitting bottom back, left, and right as one piece, so I cast on 275. And I’m going to do 31 decrease rounds total instead of 29.

I realized this style would really only go with pants and wouldn’t look so good with skirts. But I like wearing skirts, so I frogged it (I was about 3.5 skeins in, out of the 11 called for), revised the pattern, and started over. Hopefully this will turn out good!

Second try didn’t come out right either. I wanted it mid-thigh length without it flaring at the bottom, but started decreasing for the waist immediately. That made it too small at the hips. And I realized a coat needs a lot more extra breathing space than I was thinking. So readjusted my pattern and trying again.

I finally got it! And it turned out very nice! I’ll add my modifications soon. It’s also very warm. I had been thinking I’d need to line it, but on extra cold days (for NJ), it’s sufficient to just wear a light sweater underneath. The tight knitting does its job well.
