Notes

Behold! All my lovely ends of skeins of self-stripping yarns have now assembled themselves into a shockingly colorful tea cozy. (Actually, it’s mostly the orange\pink from the Noro that’s shocking. The rest of the yarns are more demure variations on my usual purples, blues and greens.) When wearing this cozy, my teapot -- an earthy homemade number in shades of brown -- reminds me very strongly of a chicken dressed up as a a peacock.

Now I really must recommend a tea cozy if you are looking for an entrelac project, for the following reason: Once I was finished knitting this, I turned it inside out and despaired of ever getting all those ends sewn in. And then, after I had sewn in five ends and still had ten or so to go, I realized: it’s a tea cozy. No sentient being need ever touch the inside (sorry Dobby). So I tied the rest in knots and am now giggling like a six-year-old who just got away with something.

Mostly for my own reference, here are some minimal notes on the construction: CO48 st, make 6 base triangles. Knit straight (ie, not in the round) 2 tiers of diamonds (or side triangles when needed). On the next tier, proceed as usual but omit the middle diamond, instead biding off those stitches (this is your spout hole). Now for the next tier, only pick up 6 stitches per diamond (need to CO 6 stitches above the spout hole). From this point on, work in the round and decrease the number of stitches per diamond by 1 every tier, until 12 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and thread through, pull tight. Put I-cord edging around the spout hole and handle hole. Voila! Now you have a tea cozy. Go make some tea.
