Notes

After seeing Wings2fly’s Linen Stitch Scarves, I was inspired to make some too.

My choice for the color of the yarns to use with this particular stitch took me awhile to find. I wanted a yarn that has all the desired color combination. Basically, I didn’t want to switch between color of yarns when crocheting this stitch. I am pleased to have found how well the Lion Brand Boutique Unforgettable yarn is turning out with this stitch pattern. Colors used are listed under the images.

Although, I didn’t use any particular pattern, there are a few YouTube tutorial videos for the Linen Stitch and Moss stitches. Seemed like, different tutors use different methods for the ending and beginning of the row. This tutorial video was the method I used for these scarves.

Also available is a free pattern from Heidi Beukelman, Linen Scarf, for anyone that would like to make it.

Here are some tips when working with the Linen Stitch:

  1. Try making the SCs and CHs evenly by using the hook shaft to guide you.
  2. Avoid making SCs snugly. Otherwise, you’d be squeezing the ch-1 that the sc is looping through and leaving a gap at the ch-1 space.
  3. Try making the sc this way. After inserting the hook into the ch-1 space, yo and pull up the yarn about twice as long as the loop that is still on the hook, yo, & pull through both loops on the hook to complete the sc. Working this way allows the sc to fill in the ch-1 space nicely without leaving a gap, and the pattern looks more defined. (See 3rd image from the top).
