I knitted this in the late 70s for someone who adored it. She sadly passed away and her husband gave it back to me as a reminder of her. I am posting this here as I think it is one of the nicest cottage tea cosy patterns I have ever seen. I do still have the pattern somewhere in my stash. Family Circle magazine had some really great craft stuff in it. I don’t know when (if ever) it ceased publication. I bet it’s all on Wikipedia. I can feel a Google coming on … . .

At a village fete today in North Norfolk. This lady won the prize for Best in Show with a tea cosy she had knitted when she was 10 years old. She is now 89. How wonderful to see another one like mine!

There is another one! It seems I knitted 2 of these, as my ex sister-in-law has just asked if could darn hers. She lives a long way away so I haven’t seen her for 25 years, just keeping in touch with Christmas cards. I have no recollection of knitting a second one and wasn’t sure it was mine. It has now arrived and is very well used, but she is in luck because I still have some of the original yarn, and it is clearly a twin to the other one. But her version is now in my freezer for a few weeks in case of moth! I’ll add before and after pictures when it emerges. It’s in dire need of attention…….

I wish I’d taken a picture before repair, but here it is, on the right, ready to keep her tea warm again. I think they look great together.
Funny though. I still have absolutely no recollection of knitting a second one.
