32 sts made me a 9 x 11 inches coaster for pans.

The yarn is a cut up old nightie, one that was below my knees resulting in this small cloth (sleeves not included, though).

Next idea: more coasters like this - same size, but made from old tea towels. How far would I get with three of those? Tried it and it looked trashy with loads of threads coming off. So I’ll stick to the jersey or tricot material.
