These mittens were made using a provisional cast-on. After casting on, one mitten was knit, then the work was flipped and a second mitten was knit creating a “tube” of two mittens connected cuff-to-cuff.

Before the decreases for the second mitten, I flipped the work inside out and tied in all loose ends. This makes the mittens reversible. One color or pattern could be used for the first mitten and another could be used for the second mitten.

After completing the two connected mittens, one is flipped inside of the other to make a doubly thick mitten.
