Instead of using stuffing, I bought styrofoam balls and placed them inside of the ornament about 4 rows before the end. Then I placed them in the wash with towels (on hot) and in the dryer so they would felt a bit. Thankfully, the foam doesn’t melt in the washer or dryer!
