Notes

Overall goal:
Spin down 1/2 of my stash.

Stretch goals:

  • Ply at least 1 yarn. (accomplished 7/9)
  • Attempt new types of plying.
  • Spin with a project in mind (accomplished 7/11)
  • Work on consistency & evenness of yarn. (attempting with every new fiber)

Added Goal Try Navajo Plying. (accomplished 7/17)

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • 17 x 4oz of fiber spun during Tour de Fleece = 68oz of fiber. At ~120yds / 4oz ==> 2,040 yards spun.
  • 9 unique types of fiber spun in a variety of blends (Alpaca, Silk, Merino, Blue-Faced Leiscter (BFL), Finn, Polwarth, Mohair, camel, & some random blend from warring countries)

PROGRESS

  • 7/21 AllSpunUp GWAT Polwarth - June SAL. (I’m in LOVE with Polwarth!!! I am adding it into my “favorite fibers to spin”.)
  • 7/20
  1. Cuckoo for Cuckoobatts -- black/pink in wool/alpaca/firestarter
  2. Mohair curls from Allyn Spin & Knit shop (personal Challenge -- spun directly from the curls, no base yarn).
  • 7/19
  1. Alpaca silk removed
  2. Julie Spins Merino/Silk (80/20)
  3. Barberpole plied Hedgehog Fibres Club fiber in Silk/Merino (love, love, love how this turned out!)
  • 7/17 - 7/18 at Medfest
  1. Wound up Peace Fleece, ST’s BFL, & BA’s GrowMeARainbow.
  2. Alpaca silk --- interesting, a bit fuzzy.
  3. Navajo ply’d Hedgehog Fibre (This was hard. Learned from a video, getting my rhythm was a challenge. Plus, I think I spun it the wrong direction. So, it tends to separate rather than cling together.)
  4. Wintercreek alpaca (LOVE this stuff!!! Adore the color. Photo of the animal it came from in the bag of fiber)
  5. Hedgehog Fibres club fiber in 100% Merino (this stuff would NOT behave. Constantly coiling. Wouldn’t draft properly. I dropped the F-bomb left & right while spinning this. I actually had to put it away for a while. I don’t understand why it did this. Normally merino is SUPER easy for me. Yes, I did try several different tension adjustments including driveband. But, all to no avail. I really like the finished product though. It’s yummy!)
  6. Hedgehog Fibre’s club fiber in Silk/Merino 50/50 blend (this too coiled a bit, but behaved more. I like the finished result more than I thought I would. I anticipated plying with the Alpaca Silk, but I think I’ll ply it with itself).
  • 7/14-7/16 -- Spirit Trail BFL finished. Separated out the pinks in the Becoming Art Adventurous Fiber Club fiber called “Grow Me a Rainbow” in FINN.

  • 7/13 -- Spirit Trail BFL. Yum. Lovely stuff! Drafts without prepping/flattening the braid. Yay for efficiency!

  • 7/11 -- Natural Yak/Merino to use with “Tillie in Pond” cloche pattern. Spun in bulky worsted weight. LOVE It. Even set the twist.

  • 7/9 - 7/11 -- Spirit Trail club fiber -- “barber pole” plied

  • 7/5 - 7/9 --Spirit Trail club fiber -- single, finish 2nd braid silk/merino.

  • 7/4 -- Spirit Trail club fiber -- single, Yak/Merino

  • 7/3 -- Peace Fiber, purchased in Silverton, OR (this stuff was TOUGH to spin! - sticky & lots of bits/bobbles in the fiber)
