Lessons learned:

  • Learned how to pick up stitches properly
  • Should have made sure to have plenty of stitches at the bottom of the front band, this kind of squished together due to the ribbing
  • 15.5 cm was not really long enough. 17 or 18 cm on the body would have been better.
  • Learned about German short rows - good start, but need to look into them a bit better
  • Thanks to looking up how to pick up stitches, learned a new way of doing Continental purl!

15/7 - Took this to London with me as a ‘well, it fits in the suitcase and you never know’ and ended up wearing it. It looked awesome! A little longer would have been nice, but it was a great little shoulder cover. More pleased with this than I realized. I’ve already cast on a second one!

1/7 - Had issues with picking up stitches - I didn’t realize that you were supposed to pick them up and knit at the same time. It makes it look so much nicer! I’m at 2 cm of ribbing now.

Have knitted to 15.5 cm instead of 17 cm in length as I’m short. We’ll see how that works out.

So close to being done!

24/6 - I decided i really wanted a successful sweater and need the black cardigan, so I picked it up. I was also comfortable on the couch. :)

Joined in the correct yarn at 17 increases, sorted out the counting (227 stitches instead of 226, one extra in the back section) and am ready to put the sleeve stitches on the waste yarn. I thought about doing it before bed, but I’m already up past my normal bed time for a work night. More tomorrow!

16/6 - This project is in semi-hibernation. I had gone on to complete the short rows and even started the ribbing… to discover that the reason the yarn looked weird was because it was the wrong yarn. It was the Baby Merino for Fred’s handwarmers. Oops. That’s what I get for doing a big order of yarn and not actually pulling everything out of the bag. I thought that everything that was black must automatically be the right yarn.

I ended up ripping back. It’s back on the needles, but I need to figure out where I am in the increases and then sort it out. It’s probably not as bad as it looks, but I’m ignoring it for the moment. Making wonderful progress on my Trillian, though!

30/5 - Oh, no! Disaster! I’m about four or five rows into a new skein… and it’s a completely different color black. I’ve also already cleared off my desk so I don’t have the dye lot numbers anymore. It’s exactly where I joined the arms and I really don’t want to rip back. Shall we call it a design feature? :S

Starting the short rows.

20/5 - Got to the fourth repeat but have started over. I had trouble figuring out exactly which three stitches I needed to work with, I’m going to blame working with black yarn at night for this. Better to get it right and have something I really want to wear!

19/5 - Cast on!

Knit 3 in 1:

  1. knit 1, but leave it on the left needle (as if doing a kfb)
  2. Yarn over
  3. Knit into the front of the stitch that was still on the left needle, then move it over to the right needle

17/5 - Bought the pattern, getting the start-up math done

Making the 2XL - this is a 48” inch bust. I’m right in between on the sizes, going to go a little larger.

Pattern gauge: 4.5 sts and 6 rows per inch in stockinette

This is the gauge I got with 4 mm needles on the Zoe Cardigan with the same yarn. Verified -> ok! Using 4 mm needles, then. I bought a 4 mm set of Knit Pro Nova Cubics to see how they work - if I don’t like them, I’ll switch back to the Karbonz that I love.
