Notes

I live and teach in Elkhart, Indiana. Because of high unemployment, 60% of the students in our school district are on free lunch and another 30% are on reduced lunch. The need is overwheming.

As school started in August, I decided to challenge myself to make 50 hats to donate to charity here in Elkhart. As of today, I have made 55 hats, and 5 additional hats with matching scarves. They will go to children in Elkhart Community Schools.

No two hats are alike. Sizes range from child to small adult. I’ve linked pattern resources for individual hats on my project page.

Updates:
On Sunday, Advent 2, our church’s Mitten Tree was decorated with 4 hat & scarf sets and 18 children’s hats for Beardsley School.

Monday, December 6: One hat & scarf set and 38 hats were given to the Elkhart Truth for distribution to Elkhart Community Schools.
