Notes

LOVE these mittens with their warm lining. I loved the Rosebud yarn. It knits up so nicely. It’s a superwash and very soft. I did the lining in luxurious Mohair - in Kidsilk Aura, which is a little heavier than Kidsilk Haze (I didn’t want to have to hold the yarn double).

Used #3 needles for the outer mittens and the size was perfect. Using #2 needles for the mohair lining, but had to switch to #1 and decrease many stitches, because the mohair knitted up so large. I don’t know why.

I’ve done mittens before, but this pattern has required me to learn a few new things. I’ve had to learn the i-cord cast-on, which wasn’t that hard at all. Doing the thumb gusset has been a little challenging but I’ve got it now.

I read a great little tip on someone’s else’s Fiddlehead Mittens about stringing a piece of waste yarn through the i-cord cast on, so the stitches are easier to pick up later for the lining. I have done this and you can see the white waste yarn in one of my photos. This is a must!

The linings are so fast to knit up because there is no colorwork to do. They are worth knitting.

Putting the thumb gusset stitches on a separate DPN helps a lot. I don’t need any stitch markers to separate where the gusset is.
