Notes

Want to use up this laceweight yarn. Saw the color rain sweater and was inspired to use the laceweight in some kind of ombre effect. Been wanting to knit the Indigo Frost Poncho but didn’t want to buy more yarn right now. Seemed like a winning combination.

7/13/2019: Calculated that if I hold 4 strands at a time, I can accomodate 5 bands of color:

  1. 4 strands green
  2. 3 strands green + 1 strand white
  3. 2 strands green + 2 strands white
  4. 1 strand green + 3 strands white
  5. 4 strands white

To accomplish this, I wound the yarn into the following balls:

  • 20g
  • 40g
  • 60g (50g full skein + 10g left from 40g windoff)
  • 80g (50g full skein + 30g left from 20g windoff)

Note that even though I wound the yarn on July 13, I didn’t cast on until the following week (July 20).

Thinking about incorporating a cable in place of the color band. Found one for a top-down sweater with corresponding stitch counts that seems like it will work well.

August 3, 2019: Finished cable just before the third color change! Now need to decide whether or not I want to do the eyelet pattern or just knit plain…

August 27, 2019: Obviously decided to do the eyelets. A good choice, I think. 16 eyelet rows total. I knew I wouldn’t have enough yarn to do the increase row before the ribbing, but it was also looking iffy as to whether I’d be able to eke out ribbing at all. Looking at other projects gave me the idea to do the garter edging. About 10 rows (5 ridges) before binding off with US9. Now just to use the tiny bit of white yarn left to make a cord + pom poms!
