2nd place at the MN State Fair…in the glamorous crochet category Afghan, Made of Modules!!! I’m pretty proud of it…although I would like to see the blanket that beat me! :)

Finished! I did a very easy edging of one round of sc, then 1 round of alternating dc and sl st. Looks very tidy and neat and (I think) much better than the busy popcorn edging in the original pattern. Faster too. I guess one good thing about my post-vacation nasty cold is that I now can enter the blanket at the State Fair after work tomorrow.

Correction - entered today. Had to go to work to get laid off, but then got to take care of the blanket. All ready for my prize :)

8/15/10
Wooo! Finished blocks last night. The last block wasn’t dry yet this morning so I’ve been working very hard to weave in all the ends. The goal is to have everything assembled and ends woven by bedtime tonight. Must then quickly choose an edging and get to work on that.

8/4/10
Working hard! I expect to finish at least 2 more blocks before today is over then only 6 more and done! We leave for vacation on Aug. 7, get back on Aug. 14, and projects are due at the fair between Aug. 15 and 18. I know I can do it!

7/30/10
Completed 4 more blocks today. I do rather wish I’d decided to use the colorful stuff earlier in the project. The blanket starts out fairly sedate and then kicks up with the greens and oranges, now we’ll finish with blues, yellows, and maybe red. I still think it’s going to be great and I can’t wait to enter it at the fair!!

7/29/10
Assembled the 6th row and attached it to the rest of the blanket tonight. Yay! No new blocks made today though. Boo!

7/28/10
Love this project! I really think this is fun and my strategy is paying off. Instead of making them all in sequence, I’m making them row by row and attaching as I go. Finished the squares for the 6th row tonight and will assemble them after they’re all dry tomorrow. Only 21 more blocks to go!?!?!?

7/27/10
Here’s another project where the timeline will not be indicative of the true amount of time to make the blanket. I was doing great with this and then got sidelined by health and mojo issues. Now I’m back on it and determined to have it ready to enter at the Minnesota State Fair!

3/20/10
Four complete rows of blocks! That calls for a new progress photo. It’s moving along nicely and I really like the addition of green. I’m not planning out the colors very much in advance. As I finish one row, I decide what colors will go in the next. I went into Word and made a large table to the size of my blanket, filled in all the numbers for each block, and I’m shading with the right colors as I decide what to use.

3/16/10
This is going very well. Today I crocheted together the 3rd row of blocks, then crocheted the strip to the other two. Finished 2 blocks from the 4th row while watching Lost. It’s going to look really great.

3/5/10
I decided to take the plunge. It started with some scraps of yarn, but I’ve purchased some more and plan to arrange my colors as I crochet the blocks by rows.

The instructions are very good and it’s really fun to crochet cables. I’ve been crocheting most of my life and have crocheted many cables, but thanks to Nancie Wiseman’s crochet technique book, I now am doing crochet cables the right way! Score!
