05-24-2012: Cast on 84 stitches using US size 2 needles. Hope these fit! Aiming for 10.25”.
05-25-2012: too big, frogged and started over with 76 stitches.
5-31-2012: Still too big and of course I waited until after I turned the heel and picked up all the gussets to measure. Once more into the frog pond. Going to go back down to US size 1 needles. Gah! I’m soooooo friggin slow on 1s.
6-6-2012: Cast on with 76 stitches on US 1.5 needles. I really loved the Sesame St. look of the larger sock. Not at all crazy about the color pooling in this smaller sock. Grrrr!
Do I start over alternating rows with both ends of the ball or carry on and live with the shifting color blocks and inevitable flashing at the ankle???
6-9-2012: Yarn got massively tangled and I still didn’t like the pooling so I frogged. Re-balled the yarn. Cast on 84 stitches from new end and modified the cuff ribbing as follows:
Across each needle
K1, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1, p1, k1tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K1.
The K1 in the middle becomes the (S2, K1, PSSO) of the pattern, while the twisted ribbing just looks neater to me, and the corners get a symmetrical K2.
I am getting a lovely stripe effect with minimal pooling. Much happier. And if they end up a smidgen too big, Steve is much too gracious to complain. :)
7-17-2012: finished the first sock!
8-16-2012: Put down the second sock in order to move into my new house! But the cuff and much of the leg are done.
9-26-2012: Turned the heel, picked up the gussets and am almost done with the decreases. Got a deadline to work toward now!
10-26-2012: Kitchnered the toe of the second sock during the last song of the concert in my living room. It was a great night and the socks fit perfectly!!!
