Notes

So I’ve had a grand total of 3 spinning lessons. The first was like 5 years ago with a drop spindle. The second about 5 months ago with a borrowed Lendrum wheel. And the third a week before the start of the 2013 Tour De Fleece with the same Lendrum wheel.

I did watch part of a spinning tutorial video from knitpicks on youtube, but it was boring and wouldn’t fully load.

I have no frakkin’ clue what I’m doing, but I’m totally addicted to spinning.

The fleece I am spinning was given to me by ValkyrieLHWB, and I think it is a silk and alpaca blend. Definitely silk (smell and sheen are the giveaways), and definitely alpaca (my cats’ uncontrollable needs to roll in it and slobber all over it tell me it is alpaca), but could be something else too.

June 29: drafted for a good two hours. I’m not so good at drafting as I spin so pre-drafting is eating up much of my spinning time. But spun a whole bunch.

June 30: drafted some more, spun for about 30 mins until the afternoon glass of wine started making my mind fuzzy and I switched to knitting a Jayne hat.

July 1: Was worried I wouldn’t have time to spin today. Went to work, met friends for dinner, and then went to see Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing. Came home tired but happy and found my roomie and her brother watching TLotR: tFoTR so I pulled out some roving, started drafting and managed to spin from the Mines of Moria to the credits.

July 2: After work and an evening of babysitting, only managed to spin for about 15 minutes. But I did it!

July 3: long day at work followed by a great concert in Santa Margarite. Was afraid I’d get home too late but home by 11:30 pm. Changed into jammies, drafted a long stretch of fiber and got 20 minutes of spinning in. Might finish this fleece tomorrow. Which means I really need to borrow a swift!!

July 4: happy Independence Day! I finished this fleece. Took it to Bonni’s house where she put it in the swift and tied it up for me so I can soak and thwack.

July 5: into the soaking bowl

July 6: wickity whackity thwack thwack
