This is done!!! It’s tumbling in the dryer on low right now.
I had to buy a 3rd extra ball of gray to finish the edging. I used - literally - 4 g of new ball.
2189 yds altogether!

As of last Spring Leaf strip, blanket is about 39” square. I’ll be lucky to get 2-ridge strip out of Spring Leaf. Am out of all the other yarns except gray for edging. Have 183 g of gray to do edging strips and i-cord.
2.23.2014
Started 5-ridge gray section. 26 g Spring Leaf, 14 g Grove and 23 g Deep Forest remaining.

Yesterday, I bought 2 new skeins of Cascade 220 Superwash in the exact same colorway as what I’d run out of previously. I’ll do the 4 border strips and the i-cord edging with it.
I’ve also run out of Badlands, and I don’t know if I have enough Grove to eke out another strip, even a 1-ridge one. A recent ridge of the Plaid Blanket took about 3.5 g.

As of beginning the 15-ridge Spring Leaf section, I’ve used about 410 g of the 751 g I had when I began. I’m about 55% done at this point, then.
It’s already of a lap-blanket size. While I’m knitting on it, with it spread out across my lap, I’m very pleased.
I eked out 7 ridges in gray.

Now thinking of just knitting until out of every color then edging with a 3-st icord in the brown High Wire. Or maybe buy a skein of DK in a brownish/charcoal. Still use size 5 needle.

Still excited about this and am thrilled at how it’s turning out. Dan even commented on how well the colors go with each other and with our couch. Success!
However, I’m already running short on the gray after doing the 15-ridge section of that color. I’ll certainly not be able to eke out a 10-ridge strip on the next color cycle. Think I’ll knit as far as I can, then move on to the next color and go back to 10-ridge strips.

I am really excited about this blanket!
-I’m using up some leftovers from my stash - the Valley Yarns DK & Cascade 220 Superwash
-I learned how to do a Russian Join so I won’t have to weave in a bunch of ends on aforementioned leftovers
-I bought 5 new yarns with a 2013 bday gift card from Knit/Purl, all in beautiful shades of green and gray.
-I have an idea of how much yarn I’ll need since the 1st Log Cabin i made took 935 g. The 7 skeins I’m using are about 751 g.
CO 40 sts. Knit 40 ridges (until square). Then, knit 20-ridge strips for 1st color cycle. Then, 1 more 20-ridge in Spring Leaf followed by 15-ridge strips. Am not sure if I’ll buy more yarn. I could always buy several skeins of an as-yet-undetermined colorway to do the final 4 strips and an i-cord edging. Possibly Tosh DK in Twig or a rich gray.
Color cycle:
Spring Leaf/ Gray/ Grove/ Deep Forest/ Badlands/ Plaid Blanket/ Silver & Bronze
38.5 sq inches = 17 g Deep Forest
50.75 sq inches = 24 g Plaid Blanket
AVERAGING 2.168 sq inches = 1 g
The math is squishy, but I think I’m on track for a 42” x 42” blanket before adding border strips/edging.
