7/16/2017 - So many projects started right now. Couldn’t help it. Decided I needed some quick to finish items in my life right now with this, hopefully, being one of them. And so far so good. The pattern seems fine so far. The designer clearly expects the knitter to know basic pattern reading such as joining for in-the-round working or looking for the pattern notes-very straightforward directions. No messing about here.

The Isaac Mizrahi Merino Blend is one of my favorite yarns to work with. I adore this yarn. I really do. The stitch definition it gives is sharp and you get fantastic detail with it. It’s perfect for cables. It is fairly soft, being a merino blend, but I don’t have an itch or burn reaction to it when working with it. That means I should be able to wear it next to my skin without a reaction as well. And since I plan on this one being for me for Fall and Winter wear, that makes me very happy. If I have enough yarn leftover I plan on making the headband as well.

8/16/2019:

Only a little over a year later and this project is done! I could have finished it sooner but I got distracted by other projects and life and so it tool a little longer than planned. But it is finished and lovely. I did have to use a needle 4 sizes larger to bind off. Every time I tried using one 2 sizes larger it just didn’t leave enough stretch, even though I was using as loose a loop as I could. Pics to come after a good soaking and dry.

9/29/2020:

Wanted to update this to add that life is a funny thing filled with opportunities to be kind and compassionate. A little while after I finished this capelet I put it away for winter. The very first time I wore it out was to the doctor’s office for some blood work because I have Grave’s Disease and have to have it checked twice a year. While my husband and I were waiting to go back an event was happening where a young/teen woman had been kicked out of her home down the street by her mother without shoes or jacket or anything warm. The poor thing walked to the doctor’s office and asked if she could use their internet to contact her dad on Facebook as the girl did not even have a phone. The office couldn’t let her so my husband let her use his phone to contact her dad who was at work in Dallas. All this was going on as I was led back to the nurse station for a blood draw. On my way out the dad (who was luckily at an office nearby by complete chance) was just walking in. Exactly at the time I was giving her this capelet, so she would have something warm to wear around her shoulders (one of the nurses had given her a pair of extra socks she carries because her feet get cold).
So, I no longer have this capelet and I couldn’t be happier about it. Keep an eye out for opportunities to pay kindness forward. Someday you might need a little warmth around your shoulders too!
