7/17/2022-

When I made the first version of this design I had a lot of issues. But then, I also made the first one when the designer had only just put out the pattern and there were several mistakes and adjustments that happened over time. The first version was seriously smaller than I expected and, as it was not for me but someone else, I knew it would be too small for the intended recipient as well.
Fast forward to this May when I finally decided to make a second attempt with the final and updated version of the pattern. I ordered 3 skeins/cakes of the It’s a Wrap Rainbow yarn in Fiesta. I very deliberately made a gauge swatch and realized part of my original issue with the yarn and size of finished item was that I used the wrong needle size. So I swatched and fixed that mistake.
It took me a month to make this beast. It’s the large C size, and when it says it takes 1200 yards of yarn, it takes almost exactly that. If you decide to make this size, buy an extra skein. I used almost every bit of yarn. I clipped and merged the skeins for use of every bit of color I could and then began to worry about not having enough blue for the tips so I cut out some color in the orange-ish and yellow sections. Total left out was about 20 yards but by the end I was wishing I had left it in anyway.
Still, all said and done it is a gorgeous shawl. It is almost 6 feet long from the longest tip to tip I could not get a good picture of it but I have a 6 foot long dining table, extended. It would have easily extended just an inch more off the table but I just didn’t have anymore room.

All that being said, this pattern is the Sherlock to my Watson. It’s gorgeous and brilliant and intense and more than a little bit nerve-wracking. But I also can’t resist challenging patterns.
I am setting my opinion of the difficulty pattern to expert. It’s super focus intensive and you have to really not pay attention to other things around you or you can quite easily lose your place or make mistakes. I ended up not putting anything on the telly that I hadn’t seen before. It was definitely a good idea. LoL
