Notes

Begun on 4mm hook, but changed to 4.5 mm after reaching 12 stitches.

I have a boxful of this yarn in assorted colours. That will determine the size.

This yarn is on the thin side of worsted weight. It’s only three actual plies. I may yet go up another hook size, depending on drape; I won’t rip back to restart.

I just fetched up the rest of the same brand yarn. There are fewer balls than I thought. There’s another of the maize, and one each of Miami Mauve/fuchsia, candy floss, and crème menthe. Unless there’s more in unsorted bins, this won’t be an adult sized blanket. Maybe it’ll only be a triangular shawl?

First ball of Maize (and a small leftover ball) done.
Mohamed’s suggested order for the rest of the yarn:
pink (Candy Floss)
bluegreen (Crème Menthe)
Fuchsia
Maize.

The partial ball of Candy Floss/pink is done. Crème Menthe begun. When nearing the halfway point of it, I’ll begin weighing worked and not yet worked quantities, in order to know when to start decreasing. … Unless I decide to just keep going for a triangular shawl. Undecided.

When doing decrease rows, I need to put a stitch marker in the turning chain, to avoid overrunning on the next row.

I decided to only use the Phentex Merit in this little blankie. The unidentified yarns can go in another. One and a bit balls to go!

August 21, 2021

So, having ripped back again to where I’d begun decreasing, I think I finally have it down pat.
First of all, I have a stitch marker in the ch1/turning chain, just so I don’t go too far.

Then, every row ends with sc, sc2tog.

Paying attention to that sequence is how I can (at last!) produce a straight edge on the decrease rows!

August 23, 2021

So, I went too far, before beginning the decrease half. With about thirty stitches left, I ran out of the yellow. I found an unlabelled ball that resembles the Phentex Merit.
Three plies.
Acrylic.
The shape of the ball is the same - short and stout.
I didn’t weigh it, but it looks to be 50g.
So, I’m using it, even if there’s hardly any contrast between the yellow and this cream-coloured yarn.
I’m used to darker shades of the same yarn having more ‘body’, but this cream feels thicker than the rest of the yarn. Maybe it’s from a different manufacturer. Who knows? I just want this blankie done! It makes no matter that one corner be thicker, stiffer than the other three. It’s a stashbuster, not a work of art!

Hey! I’m 75 years 7 months old today!! Yay for me!! smiley

Done!!!

And no more yarn identified as Phentex Merit left in my stash!! Yay!!

After it’s washed, it’ll live on the back seat of the car. Its main use will be to wrap my bare feet when I recline (while parked, waiting for my darling, of course) and put them up on the dash. He doesn’t like the flakes of shed skin on the black dashboard, and I don’t like the toe-prints on the windshield.
