I did NOT need more yarn, especially not a massive amount of cotton yarn, but it was on liquidation. I was unable to resist it! My darling wasn’t happy, until he saw that I was actually using it, not just adding it to the black hole that is my wool room.
The pattern was interesting. It begins twice and has a three-needle bind off to add the first beginning to the other end - thus both ends are identically pretty.
The lines of contrasting colour are - in essence - woven across by passing it to the front and then to the back as the other colour stitches are knitted. This meant that the garter stitch border wasn’t ever in need of short rows to avoid drawing the fabric in. Neat solution!
It’s too big and heavy for a baby and too short for me, but that doesn’t stop me from using it. At worst, I could always use it as a bath or beach towel!

I just found out the name of the weaving technique: Swedish Weaving. http://www.theweeklystitch.com/2013/10/swedish-weave.html
Wish I could locate the pattern. I don’t even remember if it was in a book, on a ball band, or where I found it.
