Notes

Why name it Twenty Stitch? I expanded upon the original pattern for no particular reason at all and cast on 20 stitches to start.

The yarns in this one are leftover (synthetic) industrial knitting yarns that have been wound together producing surprising colours. There are a few solid colours. Some of them are thicker and some thinner. Some have textured strands mixed in; some have some incorporated strands that are plied and as fine as cobweb weight, but they ALL split, because the fine strands are not plied at all. I like this blanket in spite of the fact that I must keep my eyes on the needles while knitting, and that watchfullness to avoid split stitches is why it progresses so slowly.

This morning I laid it out on our bed and decided that I’ll finish the side I’m on and one more side. It’ll be a large baby blanket or a laprobe to use in the car. There will be five ‘bands’ on each side of the starting square, if I don’t change my mind when I reach that marked corner!

Brought up from cellar. Knitting on it again.

Slip first stitch purlwise. Knit last.

The bright blue bits (9 joins!) are finally done!
Now, I find I need to put a stitch marker between stitches 19 and 20! That’s because the yarn I’m using is too close in shading to the piece it’s being attached to. I found out the hard way - missing a stitch of my 20! - and had to rip back five rows to fix it. I’ll be able to dispense with it, after attaching to the rest of this brown-and-white piece.

Turned the corner!

Showed spouse. Asked opinion about stopping at end of current side, or doing another round. He asked if I had more yarn, at which I had to laugh!!!
I have oodles more yarn! I guess I’ll keep on knitting at least another round.
No rush. No pregnancies among my relatives. I’m enjoying the knitting, mostly while listening to YouTube clips about all the investigations going on around Trump et al.

Back to working on this blanket, after being sucked into the vortex of Seamless Circular and Hexagonal Cloths for the last few weeks. October 18 through December 6 - I knit nothing else!!

December 8, 2022

Corner turned!!! The sides are so long now, that I need to consult the pattern, when I get to a corner.

New photo of whole thing.
Fifty-three inches each side.
7 bands on the west and south sides; 6 on east and north.

Finish two sides and call it quits? Or keep on for another (interminable!) round?

Corner turned!! In the photo, it looks positively green. Its the colour my mother called ‘baby-couldn’t-help-it yellow. She’d had four babies, so was quite familiar with diapers’ contents.
