Various quick Hat/Mitts/Cowl/Scarf projects along the way….

Projects are listed and pictured from most recent:

12 December 2016: I’ve gotten on board our latest scarf craze! smiley The ‘Tuto Tricotin’ Infinity Scarf originally posted by Gentiane Trognon. I made this one on the Addi Kingsize.

I worked it flat, but set the machine for knitting in the round for free movement (and to use all the white pins). I cast on 4 sts, skipped 4 sts - repeated this to the last 3 sts, CO 3 sts.

Row 1 (WS row (cranking backwards)): K3, Skip 4, K4- repeat to end.
Row 2 (RS row): K4, Sk4 repeat to last 3 sts, K3.
I repeated these 2 rows until the scarf reached 1.5m (60”) in length.

Using a 6mm crochet hook, I took 4 rows of skipped lines and inter-looped them upwards. I seamed the ends together using a 3-needle bind-off on 7mm needles. I blocked the scarf by soaking in warm water for a few minutes, squeezed out excess, then pinned down to dry flat. The scarf took 1 skein of 100g worsted weight yarn (240yds).

18 December 2015: Christmas Tree hat! It was made using the ‘Tuck Stitch’ method (video for slouchy hat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2NoXsG-1jY). I added a tinsel yarn pompom and some needle felted baubles. The yarn is a cheap DK weight acrylic of some kind.

18 November 2015: Regular scarves - same application as below, except no poms.

11 November 2015: Pompom Scarf - No ordinary scarf! About 280 rows of randomly placed blocks of colour, separated by cream. This is made using the Addi King as a tube. I used a provisional cast on so that I could hand knit the live stitches together (similar to a 3-needle bind off - instead of binding off, just knit the stitches together instead. Video for 3 needle BO: https://youtu.be/Ph93jWSzTa0). Finished with mini pompoms.
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash.

30 March 2015: BLUE/BROWN - A quick and dirty hat and mitts set using Gotland yarn held double. The stripes were made by simply swapping the colours over every 5 rounds for the hat (every 3 rounds for the mitts). Each swap required a clockwise twist of the 2 yarn colours to ensure that they held together - therefore no need to cut and tie off the yarns.
Yarn: Gotlandsk

19 March 2015: Fun hat using Margaret Olander’s (from Sheepishly Sharing) technique of folding a long tube inside the other to create a thick and springy hat. With matching wrist warmers too.
Yarn: TIG Galenas Merino Worsted in “Bonny & Blithe” / Cascade 220 Heathers in “purple”.
