That Shirley, oh she’s a trouble-maker! She taught me the basics of modular knitting and now I can’t get this idea out of my head.

It’s going to be a coat… gulp!

update Aug 2013: I got about 3 quarters way through the back section then came to the conclusion that it wouldn’t come out the way I intended. Plus the yarn was so rough, it was like knitting with barbed wire! It cut through my finger so much that I would have to take breaks for days in between. No point in carrying on really. :-(

So, in the end, the blue modular jacket was frogged!

UPDATE - SEPT 2016: OK, something interesting has just occurred… My dear Shirley has been working on this cute modular jacket (see link) in organic cotton for quite a while, but she had grown bored with it and handed the unfinished project to me! So, if I can finish it, I can keep it!! It means that all I would need to do is complete the sleeves, finish the neckline and (may or may not) add some pockets to it. Fab! :-)

UPDATE - MARCH 2017: A large mixture of heavy projects, wrist tendonitis and sheer tedium was the reason why this jacket took SO LONG to finish! Pure Life Cotton is lovely to look at, but a pig to knit with. It might be just a thing with cotton yarns generally, because this yarn splits a lot while knitting, so I had to slow right down and this is where the tedium sets in!

Thankfully Shirley had done all the donkey work on this Jacket already, so all that was left for me to do were the sleeves, the neckband and button bands - not a lot of work, but when you’ve got albatross arms like mine….zzzz! grin

The fit is loose and relaxed. Cotton is surprisingly heavy, so I’m finding that gravity is causing it to drag off my shoulders a bit. I’ve got broad shoulders, so it’s less likely to fall off, but it does make my shoulders look even wider! Dressing it up with a lace scarf would take away the focus on my shoulders, I think.

The next chance I get, I’ll post some modeled shots.

I just love these colour combinations. Shirley has got a brilliant eye for colour and style! blush
