I wanted to put a row of “sashing” before working rounds around the twisted log cabin square and had to work over the dtr (US tr) & turning chs. DC (US sc) was too short for what I wanted, so I went for htr (US hdc).
Having worked some tr (US dc) over the htrs, I knew the st count I needed, but needed better coverage over the darker sts. The right side of the photo shows plain htr (US hdc). I have tried using tr (US dc) at the ends of the rows on the square, but it’s just a bit too tight on the diagonal of the work. So I needed to add a loop to the htr without increasing st count. The top edge of photo shows the wide version of the st.
I ended up needing a wide htr (US whdc) but not having prev or next sts to work with so went with -
yo, pick up loop in ch sp (3 on hook), yo, draw thru one loop only (3), pick up loop in ch sp (4), yo, draw thru all loops.
Stitch is just a bit wider or denser but stitch count stays the same. In the photo, the wide stitch is worked in the top row and the usual htr is worked on the right side.
