My daughter has a coat with pink strawberries on the pockets and I really wanted to make her a hat to go with the coat. After searched on ravelry and the internet I eventually found a stitch I really liked the look of (sort of a cross over treble) as it seemed to develop a really nice texture:

The size was for newborn which I thought I could adapt for my 15 month year old, but however hard I tried I just couldn’t get the pattern to work. In the end I made up the pattern for the hat through increases of the stitch in circle; the stalk was just two rows of single crochet. The leaves I really struggled with and eventually I turned to my mum (who’s brill at crochet) and she made them up for me using the same cross over treble stitch for the rest of the hat.

To finish off I used some yellow wool to add some pips, which made it look like a strawberry. The whole hat only took a couple of days (would have taken less if I hadn’t had to undo it several times in trial and error).
I was really pleased with the outcome and my daughter looks really cute when she wears it!
