16 Jan- Yarn has finally arrived. printed the pattern, and….have a question already. Instructions say : “using waste yarn cast on 74 stitches”. Huh…what method is this? Need to look into this.

Ok, so it seems that this is meant to be a provisional cast on. The scarf is knit flat, and then the 2 ends are joined, the instructions say, remove waste yarn and transfer live stitches onto a needle, so yes, for sure provisional cast-on. Going to you-tube. Found a good one:

took all night to get it right, but have now completed 4 rows!

17 Jan- I should have read people’s comments before choosing this project. It requires a lot of concentration, certainly cannot do 2 things at a time with this project. Sigh….. This may take longer then I thought.

19 Jan- almost finished the second repeat of the frost flowers. It is a beautiful pattern, love how it’s coming together. It is however long, you have to constantly look at the chart/ instructions. There is no memorising this pattern.

One word of advice, blunt needles (like mine) will make the process harder!

27 Jan- making slow but steady progress. Even though it’s virtually impossible to memorize the pattern, you get into a rythm, and if you are paying attention, you sort of “feel” when you’ve made a mistake.

I have almost finished the first skein, 2 more to go.

28 Jan- 1st skein done. It really is a pattern that requires attention. I need to constantly write down which row I am working on.

5 Feb- my cowl is now about 24 inches long, and I am wondering if I should not make it a short cowl instead of a long one. I am not sure I want the double loop….hmmmm, what to do, what to do?

6Feb-decided, short it is. I considered the kitchener stitch, but I have never done it before, and to try it on my first lace project….would probably not be the smartest. So I used the 3 needles bind-off as instructed, and it looks fab. On to block now.
