Notes

After making a lovely pair of gloves with Elegance from Knit Picks in Aegean, I decided I wanted a hat and scarf to match by winter time. Of course, since I purchased the yarn I used for those gloves, the line has been discontinued. Gloss DK was the only yarn available with the same color name and although it doesn’t match exactly, it is close enough and also quite soft. I was making the scarf first but since I want to border it with a smooth yarn, I had to make the hat first so that I could find out how much I would have left to work with.
Anyway, instead of doubling the yarn and making it like the pattern says, I made a gauge swatch and am doing math to make it work out like the original pattern. To start with, I cast on 132 stitches (I am adding a slipped switch edge on each side) and I am making three buttonholes instead of two, I think I will need 5/8” buttons. I did 25 rows in ribbing then bound off 17 sts. I kept the slipped stitch edge for the stockinette portion.
After about an inch, I decreased 6 sts every other row until about 30 remained, then decreased every row until 6 remained.
The buttons are 5/8” round and made of shell and do not photograph well with a flash.
