1 May 2010

:sigh: Cookie’s mystery pattern is non-accessible :-( I am a little sad about this… I set aside time today just for this sock. It seems Cookie has set the pattern to be available up to a certain number of downloads or possibly during certain hours. According to the error messages I’ve received, I must wait until tomorrow… C’est la vie! No doubt, this design will be worth the wait ;-)
later that same day ;-)

Yay! The error is gone! In fact, the entire page appears different. I can only guess there has been great (and vocal) discontent in the SKA group.

All I can say is, “Thank you Cookie A.!”

still later

OK… I read the pattern first and learned the pattern is written for sizes Small and Large. I find this somewhat odd but also read Cookie’s notes and suggestions for size Medium, which is, to knit size Small at 7 sts/in or Large at 9 sts/in.

So…

A swatch seemed absolutely necessary. I knit a 3x3 swatch at a light (for me) tension for 7 sts/in and then CO.

After 5 rounds… Ew. This is just not my type of fabric.

My next course of action is to CO again, this time at my normal tension and, dare I say, toss the gauge swatch out the window. If that doesn’t work out, I suppose the final attempt would be to go down a needle size (2mm) or, possibly, to change yarn … but I am quite determined to use this yarn.

2 May 2010

Decided to NOT frog as I’ve learned this is a Tall SOck… if that is the case… the fit is perfect, fits very comfortably around the widest part of my calf. My only concern now is yardage :-/

12 May 2010

Clue2.Sock1 finished to 3 repeats. To my astonishment, this sock fits at the widest part of my calf and even at the ankle. I never would have thought the slight ribbing in this sock would do much, but it does. I suppose all those twisted sts help, too. ^_^

After, I realized my daughter (who seems to grow and grow some more) has larger calves and feet than myself. A fitting proved this sock will indeed accommodate her 13.5’ calf. ^_^

Eagerly awaiting the 3rd clue.

22 May: Of course the 3rd clue has been finished all week and today, I have printed and finished Clue 4. The sock is very simple and looks good throughout. I had been very skeptical about my yarn choice but, as it turns out, the yarn is well suited to the twisted stitches. On to Sock 2!

26 May: Finished up to Clue2.Sock2 and have begun Clue 3. I have stopped after picking up the gusset sts and am reserving the evening for the remainder of Clue 3. I may actually finish these this month! ^_^

29 May In the wee hours, 2:30 AM, I have completed the pair, wie et al. ^_^ I really like these socks and the yarn surprised me as well. Pics when the sun comes up!

29 May: Pic loaded… DD has tried on the socks and refuses to remove them and insists on wearing them baggy :-) She pulled them up for the pic, just for me ;-)
