Notes

I finished this hat on the first day of Spring! It’s still pretty cold around here, so I’ll get some use out of it; at least until I give it away.

It wasn’t until I finished the hat and started to enter the amount of yarn I had used that I realized I had not used the yarn I thought I was using! In fact, I was using fingering weight instead of sport, which explains why I got gauge with only one needle size down instead of my usual two! But it worked out fine and the hat looks great. I’m a little bummed that I broke into a SQ without knowing it, but it was a big SQ so I think it’ll be okay.

Modifications:
Used Judy’s Magic Cast on to start instead of the recommended provisional. This was a whole lot easier and tidier than written.
Made the band/brim about an inch longer than instructed, because I hate a tight-fitting hatband.
Knitted three pattern repeats, then worked out the remaining few inches purling all stitches except the ones leading up from the final cabled circles, for a cool stem effect.
