There were more urgent things on my knitting agenda, but I couldn’t resist these striking mittens! It’s a clear, well-written pattern. The proportions seem a bit off--the mitten is rather wide and short, with oddly long thumbs--but it’s easy enough to adjust.
It’s nice that the entire mitten is charted, but in order to fit it onto one letter-sized page, the scale has to be pretty darn small. It’s difficult to read. I was able to use it without too much strain because it only requires a glance once in a while, but if I were to knit these mittens again, I’d probably take a section of the chart, including the thumb gusset and one repeat, and enlarge it.
I did enlarge the chart for the star motif on the wristband.
Modifications:
To make the hand longer, I added four rows before beginning the decorative design at the tip, by repeating Rows 47-50.
The hand was too short, but the thumb was quite long, so I shortened the thumb by skipping from Row 18 to Row 21. Worked Row 21 all in C1. Then I skipped to Row 24, and worked Row 24 all in C3. Broke yarn after Row 24 and pulled it through remaining stitches.
Worked star motif on wristband in C2 instead of C3. With my oddball color scheme, it just needed that bolder color.
This is my first time using one of the new Wollmeise Harmonista colors, and I am smitten!

Mitten #1 dried overnight, and after a quick tumble in the dryer (it’s superwash), wow! This is the best-fitting mitten I’ve ever owned.
