Because 1) I won’t waste even a little bit of my precious Wollmeise, and because 2) my friend Paula listed most of the colors of the rainbow when I asked her what she wanted for her custom hat, and because 3) I can’t bear carrying lots of strands OR weaving in lots of ends, I ended up with this. I like some texture with my stripes--it gives them a blendy look--so I tried out twisted stockinette stitch. I think it’s charming….and the reverse is so pretty, I almost put that on the outside instead.

To finish it off, I French braided all the ends going up the back, and ended with a goofy little tail and tassel. Paula didn’t like the tail, though, so it had to go. The tailless photos were taken post-blocking, so you can see the beautiful texture of the twisted stockinette.
