Notes
  • Split skein into two 50 gm yarn balls.
  • Judy’s Magic Cast-on
  • 8 on each needle (start for medium, BUT actually making small, so increased toe for medium to 24 on each 48 total)
  • St st around to front of ankle (about 5 inches unstretched).
  • Heel has been turned as written.
  • Moving on to the leg!

Not doing TAAT this time.

Also, using 2-24” needles instead of one long needle. This time.

1/10 Finished sock one. BUT, while the foot fits perfectly (size small), the leg from above the ankle up, is tight. So I’m trying to decide the course of action. I’m thinking about ripping back to just above the ankle (which, coincidentally is where I went from st st to a 2 x 2 rib so it would be stretchy and better fitting so it wouldn’t fall down) and switch to a larger needle. The other option would be to rip back to the end of the foot section and increase to medium size when I start the leg…

I think at this point I might put this one on hold and start the next sock, working it the same until I get to the leg and do that on the larger needles and see how it works, then rework this one if that does it.

As a side note, I love how a well-fitted, hand-made sock feels on my foot!

  • 2nd toe complete. Worked hard at figuring out what was causing the hole at the corner. I may have found it - involves watching and rewatching my cast-on and specifically the first couple of stitches with Judy’s Magic cast-on.
  • Working my way up the leg of the second sock. Did not yet switch to a larger needle but will try on as I go to see at what point I might want to switch. Started 3x1 rib about an inch above the heel.
  • Trying to recall which BO I used on the first sock. I believe I started with Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy BO and thought it was getting a little too frilly so I undid it and then I think I ended up using a regular knitted bind off. Which may have been my downfall! Before I did the bind off, I did a row of straight knit on top of the rib. Don’t know why. Because I’m going to be doing things differently on the current sock, I can do things totally different. The suggested bind off for this pattern is Invisible Ribbed BO, so I might give that a try, following the rib that I’m using.

1/14 finished all stitching tonight. Height of hilarity to me that one sock is done in 2 x 2 rib and the other is in 3 x 1! I ended up using Jeny’s stretchy bind off. Don’t enjoy doing it but it is stretchy! Going to wear them tomorrow morning to the dentist and then bring them home to soak/wash and block. Final photos after that.

Thank you, Jennifer! :-)
