At 7 days from winding to completion, this is the fastest I’ve ever knit a pair of socks.

I took these socks to Eastercon and knitted while I was in panels and while hanging out with friends, and on the long commutes from our house to the Heathrow area. I’ve really enjoyed knitting this pattern, which has a single part heel turn and gusset zip I’ll probably use again. I can’t wait to wear these socks to work tomorrow!

Why yes, I have this thing about self-patterning yarns matching; why do you ask? OK, I don’t do it all the time, but I wanted to see them match here, particularly as I’m knitting two at a time.
Only two problems with the pattern so far: it would have been pretty simple for the pattern authors to have charted the lace pattern a bit more conventionally, and I cannot imagine why the alternative 3-stitch right-leaning decrease isn’t noted on the toe-up version. It’s a single line of text and would have saved me a couple of minutes finding it in the cuff-down version.

Coming off a rough slate of lace knitting and a stressful time in my life. I also think I’m coming down with something, so I want to knit something simple, something small that won’t stress me out, and I have a cubic fuckton of self-patterned sock wool in my stash. The fable is a recent purchase (last year or so), and a departure for me in that it’s black and white with shades of grey. The pattern is fairly well reviewed and was used in a SKA knit along, so I trust it already. Very happy to see there’s also a toe up pattern, as this doesn’t appear in the Ravelry tag list for this sock.
Let the winding commence!
