Using the KnitPicks ‘Bare’ 4-ply that I dip-dyed 2 shades of denimy blue.

And, no. That yarn felt rough, I don’t think I want it against my neck - even though it says it’s 100% merino! I’ve frogged what few rows I’d done, and am switching to the 50/50 Merino/Tencel from bluefaced.com / H W Hammand. Much softer, though more of a heavy fingering, at 333m/100g; but the pattern allows for missing out part of the last segment if there isn’t enough yarn, so that’s OK. It’s the one I dyed mostly blue at one end and mostly purple at the other, with speckles of each.

Finished! I weighed the remaining yarn obsessively during the last mesh section, and did elaborate calculations; I ended up doing 26 rows of mesh (rather than 32), and have just under 2.5g left, which wouldn’t have been enough to do two more rows, so I reckon I won that game of yarn chicken.
