02-14-2018

Use 3mm for body, 2.75 for rib.

Plannng to start with ribbing, knitted as 2 pieces, rather than provisional cast on.

Just waiting for Garth and Lochan to be restocked and then I’ll be all over this!

Yarn has arrived! Putting on hold so I can knit along with my sister slightly_smiling_face

04-07-2018

Cast on for back ribbing last night, using long tail cast on. Treating cast on as RS row, so starting ribbing with a WS row.

04-19-2018

Front and back hems joined, and first round of chart worked. The sheer scale of this project is just starting to dawn on me :D

11-19-2018

Terrible wrist RSI over the summer and autumn has really held up my progress with this (and all my other wips). Now I’m healing I’m able to knit again, so long as I’m careful not to overdo it!

As of today I’ve completed 78 rnds of colourwork (currently working row 11 of 3rd chart rep). Increases start at 37cm, which should equate to rnd 31 of the 4th chart rep (133 rnds of colourwork). Maybe I’ll reach the increases by Christmas smiley

This project has been on hold for a long time, and will need to wait a little longer - planning for this to be my big finish for 2020.

January 8, 2020

I picked this project up a few days ago. I’m determined to finish this jumper this year! But it feels like I still have so far to go. I’m aiming to reach the side increases by the end of this month.

January 28, 2020

I’ve reached the side increases but am having some difficulty visualising how the two that fall in the middle of a repeat work.

I’ve read all the posts in the pattern discussion and tried to chart it but, hmm… I’m far from convinced I understand how to do it correctly.

February 14, 2020

side increases complete, and I think done okay - everything seems to match up.

Starting the arm steek section.

February 29, 2020

End of month update: Over the past two weeks I’ve knitted about 3.5cm of the arm steek section. All seems to be going okay, and now I’m a bit further on from the increases I can see they look pretty okay.

My aim for March is to reach the end of the arm steek section.

September 22, 2020

Picked this up again last night after another long rest (since some point in March). Had forgotten how big and heavy this feels to knit, more like a blanket than a jumper! I think I will work on this during the start of the 10 Years In The Making club, before I inevitably succumb to casting on one of the new patterns!

December 1, 2020

Finished! I went up a needle size for the lower sleeves - using 3.25mm with 3.00mm for the rib. My sister told me she found the lower sleeves on hers very tight and I’m so glad she passed this on as I think I would have too, had I not changed needle size.

I also cut off and reknit the front rib, which I had somehow knitted too short. I added a little extra length to both the front rib and knitted the neck ribbing to the same length.

In blocking I had to stretch the width slightly to meet the pattern dimensions. This may be a result of my belated discovery that the needle 3mm needle I knitted this on is faulty - 3mm on one end and 2.5 on the other!!

I hope blocking evens out the tension and drape, it seemed to be hanging slightly strangely pre-blocking …
