Notes

Gauge
20 sts = 4.5 in on 5mm; a little big and loose besides
Gonna use 4.5mm
Gauge later on torso hanging 12r = 2”

Yarn
Great, soft and squishy superwash merino. Some tuffts and weak points, but I would definitely work with this again! We’ll see how colorfast it is…

Yoke
Colorwork in Intarsia.
Forgot to start the armhole shaping during the chart, so started 5-6 rows late and added some white under the leaves. Not a problem since the fronts of tops are usually short on me.

Somehow after joining under the arms I ended up w the exact st ct for one size smaller. I don’t think this was my error. But not sure. CCO the extra sts since I wanted a bigger arm hole anyway I surely didn’t want it to be smaller.

Body shaping
I needed more length in front for my curvy front. I knit to where the back was a good length, then started short rows (w&t) on the front as so:
k to 1” (5sts) before front side
turn, k to 1” before the other side
turn, k to 5sts before the last wrap
etc.
on the first row, i placed a removable marker in the knitting around the middle front so i could count the added short rows.
I wanted to add 3” (21 rows), and the short rows met at about 19 rows. Having them meet this close is not good for a pocket (it makes it pointy), but I was planning for a curved hem, so I kept going. It was still too short, so kept going in st st for 2” then added more short rows in reverse. That was my mistake: it made a pouch and was too long. (Pictured on hanger without collar and with sketch overlay.) Also, I picked up the w&t’s wrong in places and even the ones I did right show a lot on my belly.
After the sleeves, I didn’t have enough yarn to finish the neckband anyway so I frogged back to the start of the first set of short rows. Knit 2” (12r) of st st THEN short rows starting with the long ones, ending with the short ones so it’s more like a rounded hem before starting the rib. Stopped when they were about 10-15 sts apart, did a couple rounds til all the w&t’s were picked up then started the rib. (Pictured hot off the needles laying flat.)
This whole fracas is cuz I didn’t use bust darts but thought with the garment shaping would accommodate but I guess only horizontally and definitely not also enough for my belly.
Also, after finishing the second sleeve I forgot AGAIN to switch back to larger needles to redo the body, so from about 2” above the back hem it’s done with smaller needles. Oh well!

Sleeves
Cap: Since I had a different number of stitches to start, I had to figure out where to put marker X. I mapped out the short rows to find it’s 24sts before the 6inc sts at the top of the sleeve.
Lots of mistakes in getting the dec rnds on the right row, but maintained the overall row and dec count.
On sleeve 2 I forgot to switch back to larger needles after finishing the first cuff. Patterns should have a note at the start of the sleeve! I remembered about after the sleeve cap.
Messed up the rib and got a weird pattern on half of one sleeve cuff but oh well. I’d probably never even notice it if I hadn’t made it, otherwise I’d frog and redo.
