Notes

Chain 84 or enough to cover head from side to side (13 in, 33 cm - this will be smaller after the fpdc and bpdc stitched), turn
Row 1: dc in 3rd stitch from hook, dc to end, ch3, turn
Row 2: alternate fpdc and bpdc to end, ch3, turn
Repeat row 2 until it has enough length to almost cover cover baby’s head (16 rows or 4 in, 10 cm), fasten off.

Fold rectangle in half and sew on top (this seam will be the back of the hat)

In front opening, with wrong side facing you, work one row of v stitches (odd number), turn.
Work crocodile stitches on every other v stitch

Continue until 3 rows of crocodile stitch have been worked. Do not fasten off.

Work a row of dc all around edges of hat (head and neck openings).

Make a cord long enough to tie around the neck and weave it around dc edge of neck opening.
