It’s a very easy project. The pattern says to cast on 72 stitches, but I cast on 71 as you need an odd number.

Stockinette stitch for 5 rows, then change colors and reverse stockinette. Repeat until you have 9 stripes. Then drop every other stitch. Cast off loosely. Pull, poke, and prod until every stitch has dropped all the way down. Gather the edges, and then put ribbon ties on, and you have a sortie!

It’s a rather trapezoidal shape when done, as the casting on is looser than the casting off. This makes it fit your head nicely. I didn’t need any pins to keep mine on.

Also, the pattern calls for fringe, but I didn’t do that. I imagine at least one woman in period who made it thought the fringe was silly too :)

It’s very easy. I made mine in one day, and that included doing gauge swatches!
