Did FLK heel… In terms of marker positioning - 10st / m / 8st / m / 10st

Check foot length at 5” from the last round of the heel. You’ll prob want to go to 5.25” before starting the toe decreases but this yarn is in a diff weight than other pairs you’ve made using this heel construction… Update: I’m stopping for the toe at 5”. No need to do the extra 0.25” in this weight of yarn…

In the end, the toe is 1.5” in depth and you want about 0.5” of neg ease (vertically). Also, do one final round, after the final toe dec round…

As of using the contrast yarn for the heels, I’ve got 6g left - here’s hoping that will leave me enough to do the toes… (Likely will need to switch yarn when partly through doing the toe decreases…) Update: I had 1.5g of this yarn left after doing both toes!

Note that, while the socks fit, they ended up about 0.25” shorter than anticipated, though I measured the length from the back heel (where it meets the foot) and the start of the contrast toe. I didn’t tug the yarn but I think, given it’s twist, it contracted after I knitted the toe on.

Note that next time I work with this yarn I’ll use a US0. I find the fabric a bit more open than is optimal re: minimizing wear.

KristinM100's star rating
KristinM100's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Beautifully dyed
  2. Very sturdy (even though I'd call this a light fingering)
  3. There's a lot of lanolin in the yarn and it's quite tightly spun and rustic, so there's more friction than you might imagine. Could be easier on arthritic hands but it does keep one's hands soft!
