Notes

MC - Cascade Navy
CC1 - Will need to use diff colours for stripes, heel and toe OR use the Amble left over in Scafel Pike (20g required)
CC2 - Yellow that’s already in the project bag - or whatever you come up with if you opt to use diff colours for all stripes

Regular 3 stripe pattern

  • Start stripe 1 at 12th round aft starting leg stockinette
  • Start heel at 23R after finishing third stripe - since I may be a bit short on yarn, trying to save a couple of grams in this way…
  • Work FLK heel
  • Work 60 rounds / 5.25” from end of working heel to start of toe decreases, as follows:

After end of R55, last 4 rounds before starting toe decreases (Round 56-60), CHANGE colour to to CC2.
At round 60 begin toe decreases in CC1. While you’d usually change to CC1 4 rounds before toe decrease starts, in this instance, I want to save as much of CC1 as possible to confirm I’ll have enough to do the full toe decrease section (given that this yarn is heavier than fingering). I also wanted to preserve as much of the navy yarn which I was also running short on. And given that CC2 is shown in a 5 round stripe in the leg of the sock, I opted to make it 5 rounds just before starting toe, for consistency.

So I could have done this with only the Amble as CC1 and Cascade for MC, but I’m not unhappy that I opted to do 5 rounds in yellow - just before starting toe decreases - to save on both MC and CC1, just in case. It looks cute and this is what I’ll do in future, as long as I have 10g of CC2.

KristinM100's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Very soft, very drapy - it grows a lot once blocked
  2. Did not wear well - holes appeared quickly / Wouldn't use for socks again / This yarn will felt if put in the dryer (but that may help to stabilize the stitches if you only do it once)
  3. There's something very slippery about it, prob re: superwash treatment, and it doesn't work well on US1 needles (it splits). US 1.5 to US 2 work well. Since you can't put it in the dryer (as far as I know), this won't be a go-to yarn.
