Notes

64 st sock with contrast heel and toe. No stripes on leg.

Knit 6” (20R rib and 47R stockinette leg). then FLK heel, then work 5.75” from where heel ends to when you start the toe decreases.

Note: Switch to a contrast yarn 5 rounds before you would start toe decreases. I estimate that this will be at round 55 - it is actually at R56. You’ll likely need to use a yarn other than the Amble because you won’t have enough for the toe. On R57 start a 6R stripe in the Amble and then switch back to the original yarn. You should have 7g of yarn for each of the 20 round toe decrease sections. 15g should be safe for both. I think I’ll have enough of the MC to do this but time will tell…

My sizing rationale is that an average man’s foot is 10.25” long and the heel and toe are each ~2.25” in length. 10.25-4.5 = 5.75”. I do realize that socks require some negative ease but I make socks for myself that are 5.25” from heel end to toe decreases and they fit. I have to assume that Scott’s foot is going to be at least 0.5” longer than mine… Having said this, my socks are 60st, not 64 - so the heel is slightly longer for a man’s sock. I’ll keep the toe box the same depth as for ine by leaving 12x2 st to kitchener stitch, vs the 10x2 that I use for women’s socks.

For a 64st sock, work FLK heel with 11st on each side and 10 st in the centre…

KristinM100's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Very strong - if it's like other Regia lines it will wear well.
  2. Really splitty
  3. Rough - I don't love working with this yarn but I appreciate its sturdiness...

KristinM100's adjectives for this yarn
  1. Very soft, very drapy - it grows a lot once blocked
  2. Did not wear well - holes appeared quickly / Wouldn't use for socks again / This yarn will felt if put in the dryer (but that may help to stabilize the stitches if you only do it once)
  3. There's something very slippery about it, prob re: superwash treatment, and it doesn't work well on US1 needles (it splits). US 1.5 to US 2 work well. Since you can't put it in the dryer (as far as I know), this won't be a go-to yarn.
